The Business Club takes on MMA

Thursday 27th September 2018

Event start: 18:00

Stonger Fitness & Martial Arts

Business Club members descended on the Stronger Fitness & Martial Arts gym in Wimbledon for an evening of demonstrations and hands-on participation.

Founded by two brothers Rico and Tom this state of the art fitness and martial arts gym was a truly unique setting for the Business Club members. Tom Goulder, Marketing Manager at Stronger Fitness and Martial Arts, said:

"Stronger Fitness and Martial Arts were honoured to host the AFC Wimbledon Business Club in September. It was a fun and vibrant evening at which we were able to showcase our varied martial arts programme to local business leaders. For over 3 years, we have been teaching Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling and Kung Fu to adults, kids and families across SW19 and beyond. We feel being part of this business club has given us a platform to strengthen our ties with both the public and local businesses."

While Business Club members enjoyed some refreshments and a bite to eat, athletes from the gym treated us to demonstrations of MMA, Wrestling and Kung Fu.

However, Business Club members weren’t going to get off lightly, taking off their shoes and getting stuck in! From sparing in the cage to wrestling rolls and grappling it was certainly a night for stepping outside your comfort zone and learning something new.

William De Oliveira from the Metro Bank Wimbledon, led the way on the mat and gave some of the Stronger Fitness & Martial Arts tutors a run for their money in both MMA and Wrestling exercises.

Another fantastic evening with the Business Club. Not your normal type of networking event, this time we were given the opportunity of wrestling for the business. It was great to see our new Business Manager William getting involved in his first networking event here in Wimbledon. Thank you to Pietro and the team for organising something different and can’t wait to the next one!

Julie Baker, Local Director – Metro Bank

The evening culminated in AFC Wimbledon’s very own Pietro Palladino stepping into the cage with Ethan Charlton for two three-minute rounds of MMA action. Ethan is a talented athlete who is due to compete at the IBJJF London Fall Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championship 2018. He currently competes as a black belt in knock down Karate tournaments and is scheduled to make his MMA debut in 2019. After a herculean effort from Pietro he lasted two full rounds in the cage.

Overall, we can declare the evening a resounding win for the AFC Wimbledon Business Club!
